Sandy Action Center Volunteers Needed
There is not enough words that I can say about our own SAC. We have all been there for one reason or another. To go through their pantry when we are hungry, to grabbing a couple of winter coats for our children because money is tight, or to drop off all our extra goodies that didn’t sell at our own garage sales.
Last week Jenni and I met with Dena Isbell who along with one other person is completely running the facility. They rely on volunteers to pick up, distribute, cashier, hand out food and all of their pickups and delivers.
They are desperate need of a driver. Not just any driver either. Someone who can take their van a few times a week or once a week or basically any day you have available and pick up food at Safeway, Starbucks and Fred Meyers. They are part of a program called Fresh Alliance and they donate meat, produce and baked goods daily to their pantry. The pickup starts at 9 and takes about an hour to complete.
I will admit that after leaving our meeting I was so overwhelmed with the fact that we could not do enough volunteering to fix their complete need. If we can help arrange one person once a month to help them though it will be a dent.
If you would like to volunteer at our own SAC, please let me know and I will get in touch with Dena. She is a wonderful lady that eats, sleeps and breathes our action center. Let’s see if we can help her.
Sandy’s Helping Hands will also be putting together a team to help them on their community basket program. If you would like details, email me!
